The Qiyam al-Layl prayer is one of the most recommended supererogatory prayers, and it is a confirmed Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The time for it extends from after the Isha prayer until just before Fajr. In it, a Muslim can perform as many units of prayer as they wish, and it is recommended to prolong the recitation, bowing, and prostration. Qiyam al-Layl is not limited to prayer only but also includes the recitation of the Quran, and the remembrance of Allah through phrases of praise, glorification, and other forms of dhikr.
The Qurans that assist in reading during these long prayers tend to be large, with large font print, that is beneficial for the elderly or those who prefer reading from such Qurans. Some of these Qurans are divided into smaller sections, the size of a palm, for those who wish to hold the Quran while standing. One main feature of some large Qurans is that they consolidate more than five pages of an ordinary Quran into one page, thus reducing the need to turn many pages during these extended prayers.
